I am 20 years old living in Dublin. I am currently studying climate and environmental sustainability in DCU. I am looking forward to starting this challenge.
My challenge
My challenge is to become vegetarian! with a focus on buying locally.

I have been thinking about the beliefs that I have and how they might differ from other peoples. When discussing being vegetarian with people, a lot of them have the belief that your body will not be as strong. For example, I was told by a man I worked with that I will be too weak to do anything if I stay vegetarian. This is his belief, and although I do not agree with it, I was interested in hearing why he thought this. My beliefs are very different to this, and I think eating a vegetarian/plant based diet is very healthy. Being a vegetarian is linked to having lower cholesterol levels and less of a chance of getting cancer. It is challenging to change a persons beliefs. I feel by having educating conversations, people may take time to think about why their beliefs are important to them. For instance, when I explained to my coworker the impact of eating meat on the environment, he did not know how damaging it was. This may lead to him developing different beliefs about being vegetarian.
