I haven’t got to talk about my challenge much to friends. I will be seeing them at the weekend for a friends birthday so I will be able to have a catch up and talk about my change in diet. I did tell one friend when we were talking online that I was vegetarian as I had got a burrito and she asked what I got in it. When I told her what I got and I didn’t mention any meat see asked me why. This was interesting to see as it shows that people automatically assume that meat would be part of your diet. I can’t say for sure if I have influence others but I do know my mom has said she would do that challenge along with me. This was nice to see as it shows more and more people are becoming more aware of their impacts. I do feel by doing this challenge as a group it is helping to stay motivated and by talking to others and learning they are going through similar situations is good to hear.

cCHANGE Team commented on Day 13: Entry 4 4 years agoHi Eoghan, How is your vegetarian challenge going? It's interesting to read your reflections on culture and the support your have around you. Did your Mum take on the challenge too? I was wondering if you have thought much about the systems in our society that support or hinder vegetarianism? Does our food system, political system, retail system make it easy to be vegetarian these days? Would love to hear your thoughts. Best, Leonie at cCHANGE Respond

Eoghan Gartlan commented on Day 13: Entry 4 4 years agothe challenge is going well thank you for asking. It has been challenging when going to the shops to get something for lunch. the options in the shop are very limited and can be repetitive day after day. to combat this I will have to start making lunches at home which will also reduce my expense. My mom is trying the challenge but isn't as strict as I am being, but its still great to see her doing her best which is more than I could ask for. I think food retail shops have improved the amount of different products they offer but with ready meals the options are still limited. the college also hinders some sense of my challenge as there is not microwaves available for students. having one available would mean I could bring in meals that I liked and would be more filling. it would also mean that my plastic intake would be reduced as a lot of meals in shops are covered in plastic. From working in a big food retailers I noticed that they have a big value on meat. A lot of their promotions would be based on meat or meals prepared would mostly if not all contain meat. I understand that this is done for sales purposes but it shows how customers are still also dependent on meat in their diet. Respond
