During the challenge I have talked to a few people about going vegetarian, most if not all said that they thought it was good and that they wanted to try but had some hesitations. most of these hesitations where to do with liking meat or specifically chicken too much. Now from going vegetarian I will be able to tell them my experience or even let them know that even a small reduction in their meat intake will have a big impact. One person who I told about the challenge said he thought it was great but that he couldn’t go vegetarian. all the reasons he had said where the reasons I had been saying to myself before. I hope that by letting him know that I was the same and I was able to do it that he would be influenced to make a change.
I have become aware about how effective communication about change can influence you. From hearing or talking to people in my course I have been influenced. I know the steps they are taking to make a difference and it pushes me to do more and try new things.

cCHANGE Team commented on Day 27: Entry 10 4 years agoHi Eoghan, It's great to read your posts and the learnings about change you have had through this challenge. Well done for having conversations with people around you. It takes courage to change patterns and have new conversations in our lives. I really like how open you are to people asking you questions and the listening you have been doing. I see how you are very empathetic to where other people are at. You are right, it doesn't have to be "either/or" i.e. either meat eater or not (notice the background conversations coming up that we introduced on Day 24), it can be more nuanced than that. As you say, even a small reduction in meat intake has a big impact. I saw this BBC article the other day: https://www.bbc.com/news/science-environment-58171814 I think the infographic about meat is quite good to get an idea of the impact of different foods. (Although I was shocked and sad to see how high chocolate came, made me think I need to take on a chocolate challenge next ;)). One issue, I have with this article is it follows the same narrative of framing people as the problem, as having a "bad" impact, a "footprint" they call it. It is such a prevalent narrative in the media. At cCHANGE we prefer to say people have both a "footprint" and a "handprint", they can contribute with their creativity and solutions, wherever they are. And yes! You are so right! Communication, language, and stories between people everyday play a huge role in influencing culture, shaping what we think is important and valuable and what we believe we can achieve. Thanks for the great updates. Keep going, only two days to go! Best, Leonie at cCHANGE Respond
