The past week has been interesting, while I have counted to not eat meat over the past week my dairy intake has been up and this is because I am moving out of the accommodation I am currently staying is and I had to eat a lot of pasta to get rid of the food. I was just curious does anybody know where to get vegan pasta or if that is even a thing. This weekend I have been celebrating my granny’s 70th birthday and we went for dinner in a place called Barbecue Cowboys. I have had food there before and it is very nice but when I was looking at the menu this weekend I realised they have no vegan option on the menu which I found very strange but it just goes to show that before this challenge I would have never seen this as an issue because it didn’t effect me. However they did have a vegetarian option which was nice and these were called loaded fries. They had smoked beans and coleslaw on them. I knew the manager very well as he used to be neighbour so I asked him why he doesn’t have any vegan options and he said to me that there is no demand for it. He also said that they have to keep to a certain amount of food as produce often goes off and they have to throw it out. To be honest I understood where he was coming from but I mean he still could have at least one vegan option.

Darren Clarke commented on Day 24: Day 24 4 years agoHi Aidan. I've really enjoyed hearing about your challenge over the last few weeks and how you transitioned to eating less meat. You seem to have really embraced it. Firstly, just to let you know most dried pasta is vegan i.e. anything on the shelf in supermarkets. Occasionally, some dried pasta contains egg to give it a richer taste but this is the exception rather than the norm. A quick scan of the ingredients at the back of the packet will tell you if it contains egg. Your birthday dinner sounds lovely and it was great to hear you had a conversation with the owner. I always find it strange that a vegan option isn't offered in restaurants too as one option could allow the restaurant to cater for both vegetarians and vegans, therefore increasing its customer base. Perhaps you could suggest to the owner that the vegetarian dish could be changed slightly with vegan ingredients e.g. vegan mayonnaise exists for the coleslaw and beans should be vegans anyway. The cheese could be omitted from the recipe for vegans. It's interesting how the owner responded to your question though. Perhaps their own habits / assumptions are limiting their beliefs to see change as you have over the last 30 days. Thinking about the assumptions and opinions you had when you began this challenge. Are they the same now or have they changed in any way? Looking forward to reading your posts in the coming days. Darren Respond
