I’m a 1st year student, studying climate and environmental sustainability in DCU.
My challenge
To avoid using single use plastics and non recyclable products.

I can’t believe we’re 18 days into this challenge now. I’m proud that I has stuck with avoiding plastic as much a possible, although it can be difficult at times.

This challenge has not only influenced myself to shop more sustainability, but also others around me. Im glad to say that my family have also been sticking to this challenge and have joined me along the way. I have also encouraged some of my close friends to do the same. It’s great to see how much effect doing something like this can have on others around you.

I hope everyone is getting on well with the challenge so far!

The further I get into this challenge, I’ve realised how difficult it can be to completely eliminate single use plastics from your life.

I’m not only trying to avoid plastic with regards to food and the packages they come in but also with the products I’m buying.

In Order to avoid plastic I’ve bought a shampoo bar that came wrapped paper packaging over one that comes in a plastic bottle. I’ve done the same with soap and bought a bar instead of a bottle.

I look forward to continuing making small changes like these and encouraging others to do the same.

My sustainability challenge has been going well so far. I have become much more conscious when I’m shopping. Some swaps I’ve made have been easy, such as buying condiments in a glass bottle rather than a plastic one, but unfortunately it has not been like that for everything. When it comes to sweets and chocolates it’s difficult to find ones don’t don’t come wrapped up in plastic.

However I still feel optimistic when it comes to this challenge and look forward to overcoming any of the challenges I’m faced with!

Hello,
For my sustainability challenge I’ve decided to reduce the amount of plastic I’m buying and encouraging others around me to do the same. Starting this has made me realise how much unnecessary plastic I buy on a day to day basis. I have begun doing the weekly shop with my mam as I’m living at home, in order to ensure we shop more sustainability. One of the first changes we’ve made was to do all our fruit and veg shopping in a local shop as we can bring our reusable net bag to put all the fruit and veg in, eliminating the single use plastic many of them come wrapped in. I look forward to continuing this challenge and making changes that I can continue doing.
