My challenge
Buy locally produced food with reduced amount of plastic package for 3 days/week

Hi everyone: )

Today was my first day of actually putting my challange to practice and trying to shop fully organically, and i think I can say it went pretty well.

Over the next few weeks i’m planning to visit as many organic/local food shops as i can, so today I chose one closest to our campus. I was very positively suprised with how many great sustainable alternatives this shop had, from food with no package to refills and reusing the egg boxes, which personally was my favourite idea, to even refiling your cleaning detergens. I managed to buy most of the things i needed there, although i still had to use a supermarket for the things i didnt get to buy.

I think some of the downfalls of this experience for me was unfortunately the cost of the food, which wouldn’t normally allow me to shop there on a daily basis, and the fact that even the closest shops are at least half an hour away by bus from where i live, in comparison to supermarkets which i have at every step. Also it takes a bit more time to plan for shopping like that-especially if you want to bring your own containers and bags and even some reused bottles. Those are only little things of course, but i think they still matter.

I would say some of the habits holding me back at the moment is being used to food like fruit and veggies being overly cheap in supermarkets in comparison to local shops.

Nevertheless I’m really excited to visit more shops and hopefully try out more options on how i can reduce plastic in my grocery shopping. Next time I might also try out refilling my laundry/cleaning detergens for eco friendly ones if i get the chance!
