Receiving my day 12 Ripples text this morning influenced me to make today’s blog post about influencing. From me carrying around my own reusable water bottle I have influenced my brother and one of my friends to buy a bottle too. They thought my bottle was nice and wanted to know where I got it from. So thanks to me TK Maxx has two new customers and I feel like I am advertising for them. (Where’s my brand deal??) But there is a more important influence I had here. Both my brother and friend were super encouraging about me participating in this challenge and were wondering how they too can join in the challenge along side me. So even though they may have only bought their reusable bottles because they look cool but also this will encourage them to not buy single use bottles. Others however I have not influenced as much. My coworkers find it funny that I am always seen carrying around my bottle and searching for it when I lose it around the hotel. They don’t really understand what impact my boycott on plastic bottles and disposable coffee cups has on saving the environment but I believe all our small changes will have a global impact.

Darren Clarke commented on Day 12: TK Maxx Brand Ambassador 4 years agoHi Dasha. It's fantastic to hear that the challenge is going really well for you so far. It's great to see other positives to your challenge too, including drinking more water and feeling a little healthier. Introducing change can have ripple effects in other aspects of your life too it seems so that's fantastic. It's also great that you've managed to find a great website to refill your water bottle when on the go. Some organisations have really embraced reducing plastic waste when it comes to water bottles, which certainly helps with your challenge. Is the hotel you work in a member of refill.ie? Perhaps this is something that you could approach them about it not! It's great that you've been able to have a conversation with your brother and his friend who have decided to change their habits too, even if it was initially for the water bottle itself rather than reducing plastic waste. Your own actions it seems are influencing others. Is this something you expected at the outset of your experiment? The fact that your co-workers are talking about your water bottle is a great thing. Often starting a conversation is enough to get people thinking about change and can encourage change in those people in the future. Your actions now could have impacts in the future with these people. Have other blog posts in the class influenced you on your experiment this week? Looking forward to continuing reading your journey. Darren Respond

cCHANGE Team commented on Day 12: TK Maxx Brand Ambassador 4 years agoHi Dasha, Leonie at cCHANGE here! How is it going with your challenge? It was fantastic to read how you influenced your brother and your friend to use water bottles. Have you had any success at the hotel? Quite a lot of hotels around the world are very conscious about single-use plastics and reducing their impact - as well as their expenses. Interesting that it is not on your colleagues' agenda. Have you had any reflections around the systems that keep plastic circulating in such quantities in our society - the political, retail, health systems for example? What could change in these systems to make it easier for you to do this challenge? Thanks for the updates. Best, Leonie at cCHANGE Respond
